All cars have exhaust systems. These are meant to release burnt gases from the engine resulting from combustion that takes place inside the engine. The system has pipes that direct the flow of gases towards the discharge end, usually known as the silencer (in Europe) and a muffler (in North America).
The gases that are released by the car’s exhaust system are toxic, and harmful for health. As a matter of fact, the discharge of these burnt gases from the car is necessary to keep the car in an efficient running form.
The system needs to be repaired if it is malfunctioning. As mentioned above that the exhaust system deals with toxic gases, therefore its repair must be done by a trained and skillful mechanic who is reputable. Knowledge and expertise are required for exhaust system repair and it should be done by a professional mechanic.
There are some benefits of keeping the car exhaust system in proper working condition. For example, it keeps a fresh environment by not releasing a huge quantity of toxic gases; it keeps the drivers and car users safe from inhaling harmful gases; and on economical aspect, it gives better fuel mileage. A combination of these benefits provides sufficient reasons to go for regular repair and maintenance of the car’s exhaust system. By incurring little costs at regular intervals, one would be safe from huge costs and future hazards.
The exhaust system must be protected against rust or corrosion. The exhaust system may get rusted due to several reasons. Moisture is the biggest reason behind corrosion. The combustion itself is a process that creates moisture as a by-product. The combustion process creates moisture, which when heated, converts into vapors and discharges through the exhaust pipe. The moisture must be heated enough to convert into vapors; however, short drives do not make that happen and moisture turns back into liquid upon cooling down. This causes corrosion. This problem could be eradicated either by longer drives of roughly 15 miles in one go, or by installing a stainless pipe in the exhaust system. Good quality muffler or silencer also reduces the rate of corrosion; therefore, only the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) muffler/silencer should be purchased. In certain regions of the world, salt is sprinkled over the roads during the winter season. Some amount of salt also sticks to the bottom of the car in consequence of a continuous drive over such roads. Therefore, it must be ensured that the car is washed every few weeks in order to wash away those salt deposits. By following these tips, one can increase the life of the car’s exhaust system.
